curated collections: linking the researched and researcher with the curious

The goal of the “curated collections” project is to create linkages between those with extensive knowledge and research into a topic with those just beginning, those who are curious, and those who are looking to expand their own research.  The images below shows several methods that make knowledge available, ranging from permanently available books (chained to the shelves) to mobile carts as are used currently for class collections, and the beginning of a hybridization of technology with hard materials.  The curated collections  project will seek to merge existing methods of maintaining a collection and limiting physical mobility of the object with the fluidity of the digital environment.  It is proposed to launch CC into the Harvard Library network.  It is not essential that the CC deployed within a library match entirely the research goals of its host.  For example, the research collection of a biologist may be launched in the Loeb Library, and the work of a design theorist may be launched in Lamont.  The project calls for a diversity of approaches which requires a diverse offering of curators of the various collections throughout.

– Length of deployment?

– Digital interface?

– Linkages with research librarians?
